Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior representative stated the attack left him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
